Children programs:our learning centers provide nurturing and educational environments for hundreds of children each year. We serve infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers, and school-age children. Our classrooms are places where children develop early literacy and math skills, and learn to respect the earth and each other. Our commitment to end racism and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people is reflected throughout our curriculum, special events and classrooms. We are committed to reducing the stress of working parents who rely on us for affordable and quality child care programs. We have a grant for 16 children to be in mixed age classrooms for children 9 months old to 3 years old. This group of children stay with the same teachers until they are ready to enter our pre k counts programs. Covid-19 had york city school district doing virtual classroom for all of 2020-2021 school year. We were able to offer all day child care for york city school district children. We set up an area where the children could come each day and participate in their virtual classroom studies. This was a new environment and learning experience for the children as well as our staff. Staff worked closing with the children to help them contact to their classrooms and helped keep them focused. Parents were able to continue working because they knew their children were safe and being assisted with virtual education. Due to the extra time needed to assist the children we changed our ratio from 1 staff to 12 children to 1 staff per 6 children to offer the assistance they children needed. We were happy to be able to have our summer school age camp return to our property, camp cann-edi-on, which is located off the strinestown 83 exit. Camp explorers, for the 4 - 6 year olds, was also able to attend camp cann-edi-on on a weekly basis. All of the children were glad to be outside again and able to hike, swim, kayak and other outdoor activities. In the spring of 2021 we were awarded a contract with york suburban school district to have before and after school age child care at two locations, yorkshire and valley view. We will also be opening up full day pre-school program at both york suburban schools for ages 3 - 5. This new program will start for school year 2021-2022. We also have before and after school programs in the northeastern school district at conewago and spring forge and in york city at lincoln charter school. Youth programs:our youth programs (temple guard drill team and quantum opportunities program) focus on the strengths of young people and challenge them to expect and create great things in their lives. As such, youth have the opportunity to explore new worlds, discover their full potential, and develop toward healthy adulthood. The temple guard drill team is a mentoring program based on discipline and focus that trains youth in grades k-12 in military-style boot camp marching and dance. Drill team members perform approximately twice a month across the mid-state region. Covid-19 also kept the temple guard drill team from being able to perform at community events with so many events either canceled or they were held virtual. The quantum opportunities program (qop) is an after-school program for youth in grades 9-12 that focuses on education, community service, and life-skills development. Program participants fulfill daily requirements and earn incentive escrow payments to help fund continuing education and the expenses associated with higher education. The 2020-2021 school year was a challenge for many of our qop students. With school moving to virtual education, it was hard for some to stay focused and find space for them to attend classes where they would have access to reliable internet and technical assistance. The youth programs director made sure there was space available at YWCA york for them to log in to be able to do their required school work. The team still had weekly meetings and practice sessions to keep the youth engaged and connected. We had twelve qop seniors graduating this year and they all were accepted and started their college careers in the fall of 2021. We have received support to be able to expand the qop program from 50 students to 75 students for the school year 2021-2022 and to add another 25 students for the school year 2022-2023 to bring the program up to 100 students in total.Fiscal year 2020-2021 accomplishments - children & youth programs*145 children in state funded pre k counts between the ages of 3 - 5.*90 children in the school age before and after care programs*112 youth attended summer camp at camp cann-edi-on*68 children attended creative explorers summer camp full of swimming and various steam activities*27 children enrolled in the early learning programs that are for children 6 weeks of age to 3 years old.*38 youth participated in temple guard*100% of qop seniors graduated and were accepted into a post-secondary education program
Victim services:the victim services department of YWCA york, as recognized by the pennsylvania coalition against domestic violence and the pennsylvania coalition against rape, is the only comprehensive victim services provider in york county, offering 24-hour hotline assistance, emergency shelter, transitional housing, information and referral, hospital response, individual and group counselling for adults and children, legal advocacy, medical advocacy, abuse and sexual violence prevention education and community outreach. Our victim services program continued to provide essential services during the covid-19 pandemic. Our emergency shelter and transitional housing programs were staffed and helping clients in need. The domestic violence and sexual assault hotlines were answered and assistance given to all the clients. Our legal advocates were at the york county judicial center every day to assist clients with protection from abuse orders. Our attorney and paralegal continued serving clients with any of their civil legal matters and court cases were being held virtually to protect and provided the services our clients needed. Our counsellors were able to continue with counselling sessions either virtual, phone sessions or in person. Community education continued to find ways to reach out to the community with virtual trainings and videos. We have continued to serve victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and/or human trafficking without any lapse of services due to covid-19.Fiscal year 2020-2021 accomplishments:* 711 hotline calls were received* provided emergency shelter or transitional housing to 116 adults and 52 children* provided 4,406 hours of counselling services * legal advocacy provided to 715 clients* 4 human trafficking survivors received assistance* 231 clients provided with civil legal representation* 5,193 shelter nights provided for adults* 1,077 shelter nights provided for children
Health & fitness programs:our yoga and aquatics departments aim to improve the quality of life for people of all ages through physical fitness and health education. Programs aim to prevent health problems in adults and develop healthy habits in youth. Our programs strengthen bodies and build self-esteem and confidence. Young people learn the value of teamwork and the importance of safety while developing skills that will last a lifetime. The synchro team had 17 swimmers that started meeting again in October of 2020 due to covid-19. Normally they attend meets along the east coast but this year they practiced and were able to compete in a few virtual synchro meets. We have continued to grow our mindfulness trainings. We have found since the pandemic more organizations are looking for ways to help their staff cope with the effects of the pandemic and to learn ways to take care of themselves. We also offered several virtual, free yoga classes all through the year. The y-tri sprint triathlon is normally held the last Sunday in June, but we moved the date to August 2020 hoping we would be able to host an in person event, but covid-19 prevented that from happening and we had to cancel the event for the second year in a row. We reopened the pool in August for aquatic classes and started back with swim lessons in September 2020. Fiscal year 2020-2021 accomplishments: * 500 people participated in swim lessons * 55 aquatics members * the y-tri sprint triathlon was cancelled due the covid-19 pandemic. * The york synchro team had 17 members this past year ranging in age from 2nd to 12th grade. This is the only synchronized swim team in york county. * Continues to offer a variety of aquatic classes including different levels of aqua exercise and programs for silver sneakers members.
