Program
In fiscal year 2021, providence house continued its program
In fiscal year 2021, providence house continued its program model to serve women who would otherwise be detained at New York city's rikers island jail while awaiting their trial dates. Midyear fiscal year 2020, providence house expanded this program by converting a building to a shelter for those women awaiting trial dates who are pregnant or trying to reconnect to their children. The women's justice project (wjp) is an alternative-to-detention initiative offering 21 (15 singles and 6 family) beds and intensive one-on-one services for women referred from city courts. In fiscal year 2021, 38 women were served through this effort.
