Mission

Part 1: our mission is to improve birth outcomes and maternal, child and family health, facilitate collaboration among providers and community organizations and advocate for change. We accomplish this by assessing community needs, educating health and human service providers, updating perinatal data, educating and referring consumers, providing navigator services, encouraging healthy behaviors and increased use of health insurance programs. We are dedicated to improving birth outcomes for all women and their families, and particularly women facing difficult challenges. - Part 3: mohawk valley perinatal network, Inc. Is a 501(c)3, not-for-profit organization that has been serving families in herkimer and oneida counties since 1996. The network was formed through collaborative efforts of dedicated professionals to improve the perinatal health of women throughout our region. We work with health and human service professionals and consumers to improve birth outcomes and maternal, child and family health, facilitate collaboration among providers and community organizations and advocate for change. Mvpn was incorporated in 2001.

Maternal infant community health collaborative - mvpn is working to improve maternal and infant health outcomes for high need, low income women and their families. Key priority outcomes include reducing: preterm births, low birth weight, infant mortality and maternal mortality. Mvpn assesses community needs, helps to build collaboration amongst community services and builds community capacity, in part through provider education.Provider education topics included: safe infant sleep, oral health, "cavity free kids" curriculum, shaken baby syndrome, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

Ipa/navigator - in 2013 New York state launched the New York state of health insurance marketplace. Mvpn worked in oneida and madison counties to help individuals and families learn about health insurance choices for children and adults. Navigators were available at 13 locations throughout the two county area in addition to the agency's main site to increase access for the rural population. Navigators assist indivuals by collecting documentation, completing the application and educating about their health insurance options. Mvpn staff completed 2,404 applications for health insurance in 2017-2018, assisting 3,735 individuals to apply for health insurance. Consumers primarily hear about mvpn through a friend or family member, service providers or community flyers.
