Financial services: our digital financial services work focused on developing networks of trained female community agents to provide their neighbors digital access to financial resources to improve their lives. Agents also earn a small transaction fee to improve their own lives. In fy21, 2,390 new agents were added to the grameen foundation USA (grameen) community agent network. Each financial services agent reaches an average of 266 neighbors in her community. Agents are a key component of grameen programs in multiple countries. In india, for instance, 904 community agents are serving 1,123 low-income villages in 5 districts, including 600,000 people in the nagpur district and 40,000 people in the nashik district. In ghana, 9,000 female entrepreneurs are working with grameen agents to access digital financial services, receive business and financial literacy training, and gain understanding of resources related to gender-based violence.
Strengthening organizations: grameen foundation USA remains committed to building up the international development ecosystem that supports billions of people as they work their way out of poverty. We focus on ensuring that organizations working on poverty and hunger are equipped with the best minds and technology to help them service marginalized families efficiently and effectively. Our bankers without borders program mobilized the talent and skills of private sector volunteers to support the mission of poverty-focused enterprises. Through the end of fy 21, our volunteers have provided cumulatively $29.4 million in in-kind services to 315 social enterprises.
Health & agricultural solutions: in fy21, grameen foundation USA (grameen) continued its work to help smallholder farmers reduce their vulnerability to shocks such as climate change, extreme weather events, crop disease, pests and market volatility. We do this by delivering to farmers data-driven digital farm plans, teaching agriculture best practices, and creating connections to financial services and markets to help poor farmers achieve sustainability and grow resilience. In ghana, we completed a program to develop 7-year farm development plans for 240,000 smallholder farmers using farm data such as soil conditions and weather and satellite data to guide their investments and decisions. In india, 120,000 farmers, supported by 40 farm producer organizations, are improving their incomes by learning to use digital data and working with grameen agents to access digital financial services.
